Trempelau
Trempealeau is a quaint, little town just north of La Crosse in Wisconsin. It lends some beautiful views of the Mississippi and is home to Perrot State Park: where you can find excellent views of the Mississippi, nice kayaking spots, and true old-fashioned outdoor camping.
While you're there, I highly recommend grabbing dinner at the Historic Trempealeau Hotel. Again, you can enjoy wonderful views of the Mississippi, grab some delicious made-from-scratch food, and during the summer months, hear some live music. This place is a local gem, so definitely make reservations ahead of time!
Hiking
Perrot State Park and Trempealeau Wildlife Refuge both offer great trails for every level of hiker. If you like an app, I highly recommend "All Trails", it basically does the hard work for you and shows you most of the trails in the area. If you prefer to leave the tech at home and enjoy the alone time, Perrot State Park has trail maps at every turn of the trail.
Below, everyone can find some of my personal maps before they head out and see exactly what you're up against. These are a few of the trails I've explored and they include hiking time, elevations, and trail difficulty.
